Aachen-based GRÜN Software Group has won the Nuremberg family offices Fontas and Mogk as financially strong partners for its growth plans to build a group of mid-sized B2B software companies. The investors have acquired a significant minority stake. Founder and CEO Dr Oliver Grün remains the majority shareholder.

The aim of the partnership is to support the growth of GRÜN Software Group, which today has 150 employees, through the acquisition and further development of software companies with industry-specific software as part of a ‘buy & build’ strategy: ‘With our strong new partners, we are complementing our experience in building mid-sized software companies with the capital needed for acquisitions. This creates an owner-managed platform for investments in software companies that is unique in this form,’ says a delighted Dr Oliver Grün.

In future, the investment team at GRÜN will be supported by Prof. Dr Rainer Lauterbach and Fabian Durst. This will also strengthen the group’s financial expertise: ‘Our joint approach of combining software and financial know-how is a new offering in the market for mid-sized software companies, which is currently undergoing a strong phase of consolidation due to succession issues and market changes,’ says Prof. Lauterbach.

To strengthen and expand the operating business of GRÜN Software Group, which currently offers solutions for non-profit organisations and education providers, Dirk Hönscheid, the company’s long-standing authorised officer (Prokurist) and COO, has also been appointed as a managing director.

Following a change of legal form, the company will with immediate effect no longer trade as GRÜN Software AG, but as GRÜN Software Group GmbH. All existing contacts, contracts and partnerships remain unchanged.

GRÜN was advised on the transaction by lawyer Peter Siedlatzek of WSS Redpoint in Cologne, and the family offices Fontas and Mogk by Bird & Bird in Frankfurt.
