WSS Redpoint advises the founders of the Cologne-based clean tech software company envelio GmbH on the sale of a majority stake to E.ON.
envelio is a specialist in digital grid management and has developed the ‘Intelligent Grid Platform’. This solution enables grid operators to create a so-called ‘digital twin’ of the energy grid in order to optimise grid planning and operations as well as decisions based on real-time grid data. The company was founded in 2017 as a spin-off from RWTH Aachen and has a diverse, international team of more than 70 employees.
The acquisition of envelio is part of E.ON’s drive to create an open digital energy ecosystem. As part of the energy transition, more and more decentralised renewable energy sources and wallboxes for charging electric vehicles have to be connected to the grid. envelio’s products make this new decentralised energy world possible. The combination with E.ON’s industry expertise is intended to accelerate this development even further.
Simon Koopmann, co-founder and managing director of envelio: ‘We are thrilled about the new partnership with E.ON and the successful completion of the transaction. The WSS Redpoint team also played a very important part in this. WSS has always supported us very competently since our foundation and, in these negotiations too, once again gave us active support with a combination of legal and commercial know-how. Many thanks for that!’
On the sale, the founders of envelio were advised on behalf of WSS Redpoint by Peter Siedlatzek (lead, corporate law) and Bonny Kern (IT law). WSS Redpoint has advised the founders since the company was founded and has had the privilege of accompanying envelio’s entire successful journey.
